Our 2024 IRRI reunion and Global Rice Research Foundation annual meetings in Portland, Oregon, are rapidly approaching. About 90 alumni will be attending. Here is an update on the activities and opportunities for the weekend of July 26 – 28.

Most people are staying at The Benson Hotel right downtown ( 309 SW Broadway, Portland).

$ REGISTRATION FEE—We have received generous donations from RiceTec, Ed Price and the Zeiglers , but are soliciting contributions from all attendees to cover the costs of this reunion, which will defray rental, transport, food costs.  Any collected funds that exceed the costs will go to the Global Rice Research Foundation to support more graduate Rice Scholars. Friday, July 26
9:00 am— Sit and Chat Space—A place has been reserved in the hotel which will be available to all Reunion participants who need a place to meet and chat, in addition to the hotel lobby.

6:00 pm —- Welcome Reception on Friday evening will be held in the Crystal Ballroom off the lobby of the Benson hotel. This reception will include a Guesthouse-type Chicken-on-a-stick dinner with a cash bar. There will also be an honoring memoriam to Drs. Cantrell, Lampe, Swaminathan, and others lost over the last few years.

Saturday, July 27
8:30-12:30–GRRF Board and General Meeting, The Cambridge-Oxford Room, The Benson Hotel. Board members and interested parties.

10:00 am—Walking Tour of Portland. Experienced travel guides will meet you in the lobby. This tour will hit up the historical and sometimes weird highlights of Portland’s city center with a lot of information and humor. Any of the three walking tours can be adapted to be slower paced for those less sprightly!

All day–Sit and Chat Space– A place has been reserved in the hotel which will be available to all Reunion participants who need a place to meet and chat.

6:00pm—Garden dinner  for all at Zeigler’s residence. Transport will be provided.

Sunday, July 28
Most participants are leaving Portland on this day, but for all those staying it is an open and free time to explore the Willamette Valley Wineries, head out to the Pacific Coast, or up to Mt. Hood in the Cascade Mountains. To book online tours click on the following:
